Custom 40 Desporado

Desperado started life as a stock J120 named Avra. As the north east class dissipated, the owner began exploring modifications to improve performance in the handicap fleet.  In 2014, the founders of NEKA had the opportunity to lead the transition of this one design boat into a purpose build performer for the Long Island Sound. 

The design brief for Desperado was a blank slate project. The vision to transform a production racer-cruiser into a high performance distance, and offshore racing machine was completed in 2018. Desperado, as she is know today, has proven herself to be a solid performer and an excellent training tool for our athletes.
